CLINTON FISH AND GAME CLUB NEWSLETTER
DECEMBER 2006 - CLUB NEWS AND EVENTS

A New Year Approaches
With the coming of the new year and winter comes the renewal of dues.
Enclosed you will find a membership renewal form.
Please fill this out or change any information that is incorrect and mail it back to the club with you dues.
A new 2007 membership card will be mailed back to you.  Deadline for renewal is Jan 31st so don't wait.
Dues are $75.00 a year, even with everything in the world going up in price, your dues have remained the same.

Sporting Clays: The sporting clays season has been a great success.  With shooting in the woods increasing a lot.  Due in part to the 100 bird courses being setup by Ray Majka.  These are championship courses with some outstanding targets.  For those newer to the sport a 50 birds lighter course is also being offered.  Thanks to Ray Majka for setting some great courses this year. Skeet:  There is still a lot of interest in skeet shooting.  Last Sunday all three skeet fields were in full use.  Who says skeet is not as popular as it once was.  You couldn't tell that last Sunday.  If anyone is interested in a skeet league or holding a special skeet shoot of any kind please contact any board member.
5-Stand - We should be proud of the 5-stand course we have, one of the best in the area.  Great targets, challenging with a big variety of targets and three different levels to the game.  A great game for all levels of shooters. Trap:  Still a favorite among a lot of us.  With the different games that can be played from regular trap to scrap trap (shooting trap from the skeet pads) there is a lot of fun to be had with this old favorite.
New Traps: All the new traps are in and having them has made a big difference,  Two skeet fields now have large capacity traps so having to fill them after every round is a thing of the past.  Two additional automatic traps have been put into action on the sporting clays course, again adding to the great targets that can now be presented.  A new teal trap for the 5-stand has cut down on breakage and delays making this one of the best 5-stands in the area. Individual Donations:  We had an 8.3% increase in school taxes this year.  Some generous members have donated $100 each to help offset our raising costs.  If you would like to donate and help the club please contact any board member or send the check directly to the club, thank you and to the generous members who have already donated to the cause.
Pheasant Release: Our poor pheasants didn't fair very well.  It was a noble effort to try and raise them, but the project didn't work as planed.  What little pheasants survived were released on club property but not much hope was given to them.  A review of this program decided not to attempt it next year.
Rifle Range/General Rules:  Please follow all rifle range rules to the letter. Shoot safely, clean up after your done and do not drive on the grass to get the shooting benches.

Rules for Rifle Range, General Conduct, Off Hours Shooting and General Safety Rules can be found on the website in the 'About The Club section.
Off Hour Shooting: There has been a lot of talk about off hours shooting. Here are the basic rules. Off hour shooting is allowed for all rifle and pistol shooting based on the standard hours and the fact there are no scheduled events.  Skeet/Trap shooting is by appointment only.  Please contact Ray Majka at least 24hrs in advanced and he will open up the skeet/trap houses for you.  This gives the club better control on targets and equipment use, helping us cut costs in the long run.
DEC/Oil Tank: Our oil tank had a very small leak in it.  It was discovered right away and the board took immediate action to stop the leak and purchase a new tank.  We had a used tank donated to us but we would have had to wait three weeks to get it.  The board decided it couldn't wait and the tank needed to be replaced as soon as possible.  The day after the board/general membership meeting someone placed a call to the DEC and reported the leak.  This was then taken out of the boards hands and a contractor had to be called in for removal of the tank and 7 drums of soil.  A new tank and catch basin were installed.  A needless expensive under taking but once the DEC got involved it had to be done.  George Mair and Joe Cifarelli spent a lot of time getting this taken care of, thank you George and Joe.  A final bill has not been presented to the club for this project.
General Membership Meeting Date Change:  Next years December 2007 general membership meeting date falls on the 25th, Christmas day.  The board has decided to change this meeting date to December 18th, the week prior to the normal meeting
